Original Janaan Kitchen Batik "Sitka Raven Totem" on Fabric. Approximate Size: 30" x 15". Janaan Kitchen has lived in Alaska since 1968 and has been creating fine art batiks since 1973, during which time she has received more than 100 first place and juror’s choice awards. She has had shows throughout Alaska and the U.S. and was the featured artist in 1998 at Australia’s premier wildlife art show in Melbourne. A piece of her work is in the permanent collection of the Anchorage Historical and Fine Art Museum. Janaan has also had a solo show at the Charles and Emma Frye Museum in Seattle. Her batiks have been used as illustrations in Alaska Magazine and in the Anchorage Daily News, among other publications. She has pieces in several public institutions, including a 48-foot (acrylic) mural in Crooked Creek School on the Kuskokwim Delta in Alaska. In addition to Janaan’s other artwork, she has twice been the winning designer for the Anchorage Fur Rendezvous collector’s button and was selected two times to create a decorated egg to represent Alaska in the White House Easter display. She works in oils, acrylics, watercolors and jewelry design, in addition to batiks and encaustics.
