Rehoming because we now have a family member who is very sick and we need to be able to travel for days or weeks without notice. Her fear of strangers is making that difficult. Great watch/guard dog, super healthy and athletic at 65 pounds. Almost 3 1/2 years old. Does great with and loves other dogs and small animals she's properly introduced to. We've had her since she was 2 months old, she came from a farm, was never properly socialized with strangers, and she has fear and anxiety of new people that started showing when she was 4 months old because we had neighbors at the time who didn't like dogs who would scare her to run her off their property when she was a little thing. Now she takes a lot of time to warm up to people and trust them. She can be very intimidating with her barking, but she's never bitten anyone. We've had a friend stay with us for over a week before, that friend knew how to gain a dog's trust, and she did start to get friendly with her after a few hours. She may just need someone who can work with her and socialize her more, or it may be best for her to go to someone who doesn't have a lot of visitors who is gentle, patient, not intimidated easily, and wants to try to win her trust. Other than that, she's very well behaved, loyal, protective, and affectionate with her people. She sleeps with us, enjoys car rides, and does well off leash on remote trails. She is not the type to avoid confrontations with bear or moose. She's an indoor/outdoor dog that goes out when she pleases and is fully house trained. She does very well for grooming and bathing. She does awesome with our children, but we don't recommend her being around other children she hasn't already accepted as family. She will bark at kids she does not know and they may act in an unsafe way around her. She does not like moose, birds, rodents, and will bark at large animals like cows and horses. She would bark too much for the city or suburbs unless it's a private, well treed, quiet lot, with some acreage. Please do not inquire if you expect her to like you right away. She WILL NOT.
