6" OD Motorized Dampers & Transformers
Location

I have 6, motorized duct dampers, 6” OD diameter, 24V DC, as well as voltage transformers to reduce the voltage from your household 110VAC to 24V DC. Of these 6 dampers, I have:

Two, NC (normally closed) motorized duct dampers, 6” x 10”, made by FAMCO.

Four, NO (normally open) motorized duct dampers, 6” x 8”, made by Suncourt.

Each motorized damper comes with its own 24V DC transformer so you can use the motorized duct damper in your home, garage, or hydroponic grow room.

You can buy all 6 dampers (if so, I’d discount the price), or, you can buy only what you think you may need at the moment. Either way, please make me an offer. My asking price per unit isn’t set in stone.

The simplest and least expensive way to wire these dampers to power on and off is with an ordinary toggle switch.

I have some suggestions and advise below for the application of these motorized duct dampers and other products that would go really well with them. If that interests you, please continue reading. If not, stop reading now, and thank you for viewing my ad

These dampers are ideal for HVAC applications, both for conserving heat in homes or for bringing in fresh air in homes (rectifying allergies, wood stove smoke, odors, and negative pressure) or hydroponic grow rooms that are prone to over-heating due to the hotness of grow lights. These dampers and transformers can run in conjunction with a variety of timers, both AC (upstream of the transformer) or DC (downstream of the transformer).

If I could give you any advise on timers, it would be this: actual, physical timer products, while they’ll still work, are a relic of the past. Now timing and scheduling is done using “zwave” (and comparable wireless technologies) electrical switches, temperature sensors, and other types of sensors and devices which can be controlled with smart phone apps (both IOS and Android).

If you have a Vivint or similar security system, you may already have a central hub (in the case of Vivint, it’s called the SkyControl panel), and you may already have sensors and devices paired to it. You might also already know how to create “rules” in the Vivint (or other comparable) apps to govern sensors (such as temperature or humidity sensors) and other devices (such as the HVAC system, thermostat, door locks, cameras and alarms).

Vivint and comparable security systems use zwave (a wireless signal transmitter technology, similar to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth). If you want to use these dampers to introduce fresh air in your home without losing heat, you don’t necessarily have to spend a couple thousand dollars or more to have a HRV (heat recovery ventilator) and it’s own dedicated controller installed in your home. Nor do you have to spend top dollar for a thermostat that controls both your furnace and a HRV unit (in order to avoid buying a dedicated HRV wall panel controller). An in-line fan and motorized dampers—like mine—coupled with a decent, modern, smart phone app compatible with zwave products, will provide fresh air on a programmable schedule for a fraction of the cost.

In your zwave app, you would simply create a schedule that controls how often the fan is to turn on and how often the dampers are toggled open or closed, as well as how long you want the dampers and fan to run once they are powered on. As one example, in a hydroponic grow room application, a new rule might be created that dictates a condition like this: once the room temperature rises above a temperature level of your choice, the fan and dampers are powered on until the temperature lowers to an acceptable level.

If you don’t have a Vivint SkyControl panel (hub), you would need to purchase a “hub” for z-wave sensors and devices. There are MANY options on the market. The most expensive options offer a lot of unnecessary features, so keep that in mind. I would suggest finding a hub that has a smart phone app, is “subscription free,” and features the best notification options. I haven’t looked at hubs for a few years. Now there are even more on the market. Back when I was in the know, the most affordable hub with a free, no-subscription app was made by a company called Vera, and Vera made several hubs even back then. One could be bought for under $150 that could handle dozens and dozens of different zwave sensors and devices, enough to control every aspect of your home. If that sounds interesting to you, even if you don’t want my dampers, do some research of your own.

Depending upon the hub you choose, you can buy one that also sends out notifications by SMS or email, which is very useful if you buy or own zwave door and window sensors, glass break sensors, motion detector sensors, temperature and humidity sensors, smoke and CO2 sensors, light sensors, security cameras (indoor, outdoor, and doorbell cameras), electrical switches, water valves and solenoid valves, alarms, door locks, garage door sensors, tilting sensors (a wise thing to place in gun or money safe to protect yourself against thieves attempting to carry away your safe) and garage door openers. If you already pay monthly bills for Vivint or similar security systems, then buying a hub with comprehensive notification features is a purchase that may quickly pay for itself: you could cancel your subscription to the security system company and even pair all of your existing zwave devices to the new hub! You could also cancel your subscription to Vivint and keep your SkyControl panel hub, relying upon SMS or email notifications if alarms are triggered, and abandoning the benefit of having a actual person calling the police or fire department on your behalf.

In reality, after your security system devices were installed, all you are really paying for on a monthly basis is for the feature of an actual person to make calls for you and interact with you through the SkyControl panel hub. With the right hub, you can rest assured that the fire department is notified if sensors detect smoke, CO2, or unreasonably high temperature levels. If a humidity sensor is triggered in your crawl space, you might want to be notified because it may mean that your water pipes are freezing, in which case a water shut off valve could close and minimize the damage. If doors, a garage door, or windows are opened, or if the glass break sensor is triggered, you may want to be notified right away, along with the police.

I mentioned schedules earlier. You can also set up schedules for lights to turn on or off. That is useful for when you are away from home, as it gives the impression that somebody is home. The same holds true for outside lights, which you might want to turn on every night at a given time or turn on when it’s dark only. There is so much that can be done with zwave devices, sensors and hubs. This is just a partial list!

It should also be pointed out that zwave is only one type of wireless technology. There are other types, such as zigby and yet even more types than this. It’s important when you do your research to find out about the different types of wireless smart home technologies because it makes the most sense when picking out a sensor, device or hub to buy a product that supports as many of the different technology types as possible, because you may need to mix and match in order to find sensors and devices that offer the most features for the least amount of money.

If you already have Vivint or a similar system, your main control panel installed in your home is essentially a hub and you can use your existing Vivint hub to pair new zwave devices and sensors, thus avoiding the need to buy a new hub if you only need a hub for controlling devices and sensors, not sending out notifications. You can also buy your own x-wave devices and sensors, for potentially less money, than purchasing from Vivin’t limited inventory. If you are shopping for a new hub, you want to be able to notify the police and fire department in addition to yourself and several other trusted people, like relatives, friends and neighbors.

Even if you don’t buy my dampers, I hope you took away something useful from this ad. Have a great day and thanks again for reading.
