Rehoming RARE Bavarian Mountain Hound
After a lot of thought, we have decided to look for the right home for our 3-year-old, 40lb intact male Bavarian Mountain Hound.

He is UKC papered and may very well be the only Bavarian Mountain Hound in Alaska. He has a wonderful temperament — affectionate, social, playful, and great with our family and other dogs. He especially loves fetch and being outdoors. He’s even finally learned to leave the chickens alone.

This has been a difficult decision, but we are in a very full season of life and feel he deserves more consistent exercise, structure, and attention than we are currently able to provide. He is an active scent hound and would thrive with someone experienced with working or tracking breeds.

His parents and grandparents were all working dogs, and he comes from strong working lines. He is currently intact and will need a secure environment, as scent hounds naturally have strong instincts and can be prone to roaming if not properly contained and exercised.

The Bavarian Mountain Hound is a rare scent hound breed originally developed in Germany for tracking wounded game through rugged mountain terrain. They are highly intelligent, loyal, and athletic dogs known for their incredible noses and strong bond with their handlers. Because they were bred as working dogs, they do best with plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and opportunities to use their tracking instincts. With the strong hunting culture in Alaska, this breed is especially well-suited for blood tracking and locating wounded game in the field.

Please message me if you feel you may be a good fit or would like more information.
Thanks for looking!
