Before taking home your baby axolotl please have your tank ready and be well read on the care of axolotls. Everyone has their own way of doing things, my axolotls I've had for 4 years without any health issues what so ever. Read below for MY rules for good husbandry.
1. Tank size should grow as babies grow. I started with 2 babies at 2 and 3 inches long in a 20 gal. Now they are over 12 inches in a 45 gal.
2. I use well water to fill my tank to avoid chlorine and microplastics and i do not use chemicals.
3. I do not need a chiller because my house is kept at 65°or below year round.
4. I pay attention to axolotl gill health, aquarium plant health, and water clarity instead of testing water parameters.
5. Babies are fed live brine shrimp and blood worms 2-3× a day now they are eating chopped red wigglers 2x a day. Adults are fed earthworms and "sushi grade" salmon and roe.
6. Axolotls can get stressed on bare bottom tanks so i use rocks that are 3x the size of their body mass, aquarium plants and propagating monsteras to climb on. As adults, i use fluval stratum because it breaks down in their digestive system if swallowed.
7. You can clean tank using turkey baster between water changes.
8. Axolotls prefer low light, I use a grow light bulb raised 1 and a half feet above tank to simulate sunlight. Some of the axolotls are GFP so you may want to use a black light. Turn off lights at night and provide hides/caves.
9. I use a tetra whisper filter and a bubbler as well to improve water quality and increase oxygen.
If you'd like to do things my way feel free to ask any questions anytime. If not, join some axolotl groups online :) and do your own research. Message me for axolotl baby availability and pics. Prices start at $20
