We are looking for a new home for our beautiful Maremmano-Abruzzese female (Italian sheepdog), Athena, about a year and a half old.
She is a sweet, playful, and deeply loving dog who has been raised with our family. She weighs about 80 lbs and has a natural protective instinct, as is typical for her breed. She does not bite, but she is very aware and will look out for her people and home.
She is great with other dogs, good with cats, gentle with children, and very affectionate once she knows you.
She has only known our family, so she will need some time and patience to warm up to a new home, but once she does, she bonds deeply.
She absolutely loves snow, being outside, playing with toys, and being near her people.
The only reason we are rehoming her is that we are moving out of state to a much warmer climate, and her thick coat and love for the cold make Alaska a much better environment for her.
We are hoping to find a home that understands or is willing to learn about guardian breeds, can give her space and time to adjust, and will appreciate her loyalty and personality.
This is not a decision we have made lightly. She is a wonderful dog and deserves a home where she can thrive.
Please reach out if you feel like your home could be a good fit.
