Socialism has been abandoned almost everywhere it was tried. Yet, its underlying philosophy of collectivism and statism has not weakened a bit. Even now, here in the 21st Century, in practically every country of any consequence, a system of economic fascism has been implemented -- a system which features severely compromised property and civil rights, but allows citizens some room for entrepreneurial maneuver, where the age-old sin of materialism and envy drives human socio-economic action just as effectively as torture ever did in the USSR or Mao's China.
