While the constant ebb and flow of our attention is constantly manipulated by mass media and by the endless variety of technological gadgetry designed to replace real human interaction, the architects of tomorrow are reconstructing the foundations of human existence. Entombed in artificial wombs, surrounded by an electronic soup, hundreds of millions of Americans have become like the living batteries suggested in the film "The Matrix". Indeed, most people are "asleep," living out their lives in a machine controlled virtual reality created by television, movies, video games, and CIA-hatched Web sites like this one where their minds are fed an artificial version of the world in which mankind once lived, a VR version of life designed to cause their minds to believe that they are still living in "the real world." The reason for this artificial reality is obvious: human beings without an artificially programmed sense of self-worth will awaken, rebel, or worse, wither away and die, depriving the oligarchs who feed off humanity of their food supply.
